An intense feeling of deep affection. [Google]
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preservers. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 [NIV]
So many times we mistake Love for a feeling. We call it, puppy love, butterflies, a spark, & even fireworks. Then, as quickly as we felt those “feelings”, they fade away, & we think that we missed it. The truth is those feelings come & go, but love…It does stuff.
Love is patient in traffic, it’s kind to the person who skipped ahead in the coffee shop.
Love is not jealous of the co-worker who got the promotion, nor does it brag when it got the promotion, it doesn’t make someone feel ashamed because they didn’t know the answer, but it did.
Love doesn’t make others look bad, it doesn’t throw others “under the bus” to make itself look better, it doesn’t get mad easily, & it doesn’t keep score of the bad.
Love doesn’t get excited about someone else’s wrongdoing but is happy that the truth has been let out.
Love is protective, always wants to trust, always hopes for the best, & love always perseveres over anything not acting in love.
So, y’all see? Love is a verb, it’s a doer.
As we go through this week let’s all try to be doers of Love 🕊
