The quality of being morally good or virtuous. [Google]
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of living. Psalm 27:13 [NIV]
Now, I’m not excusing bad behavior & I’m perfectly aware that there are those who choose not to use their goodness as often as they should. And…Maybe I’m looking at the world through rose colored glasses, but I like to believe that there is goodness in all of us.
There are times when we all get so caught up in our idea of right & wrong or what’s good & what’s bad that we can become a little…shall I say, “self righteous”. Blinding us to a point that it may be difficult to find goodness in anything or anyone. This is not good for us…mentally, physically, or spiritually.
Just because we may not see it on the surface, every person has their own set of good morals & virtues. For instance, that arrogant boss may have a soft spot for little old ladies, that rude cashier may spend all her spare time helping abandoned animals, or that hard nosed professor may know that you can do better.
Again, not excusing poor behavior, but by looking a little deeper at those around you, can help change your perspective on their idea of goodness. It can also help you to see that goodness is much broader than just your ideas & beliefs.
This week, I challenge y’all to put on your rose colored glasses & find goodness in someone that you may have otherwise thought didn’t have any. It may help you to see areas in your own life that are missing goodness 🕊
